The practice of distance consulting from home is not new to CATCH and has proven to be an ideal method to make the our programs available to families outside of our immediate service area. We have been overseeing successful, remote family interventions throughout the U.S. and Southeast Asia for over fifteen years. This is made possible as our programs are built around a parent-based approach that doesn’t require direct professional engagement with the child. Instead, mothers and fathers are trained to become the primary change agent for their child, using methods and practices taught to them by CATCH consultants. By utilizing modern communication channels we are able to offer remote families most of the same services we offer to our local families.
To start, families are asked to administer our home-based assessment protocol to determine the appropriate starting point for each family. This brief evaluation involves a series of play-based activities to be carried out between parent and child in the home setting to determine a starting point. Parents and consultants then work together to determine a set of appropriate goals and objectives for the family, and a treatment plan is created.
Parent training is delivered through the use of video conference meetings with a CATCH consultant and on-demand tutorials. Parents are given between-meeting assignments which are carried out in the home, video recorded and submitted to a consultant for evaluation. Video conferencing allows for parents and consultant to virtually meet to review lessons, advance objectives and discuss obstacles in real time. In this manner we are able to offer your family most of the same services we offer to our local families.
